Once I was a clever boy learning the arts of Oxford... is a quotation from the verses written by Bishop Richard Fleming (c.1385-1431) for his tomb in Lincoln Cathedral. Fleming, the founder of Lincoln College in Oxford, is the subject of my research for a D. Phil., and, like me, a son of the West Riding. I have remarked in the past that I have a deeply meaningful on-going relationship with a dead fifteenth century bishop... it was Fleming who, in effect, enabled me to come to Oxford and to learn its arts, and for that I am immensely grateful.

Extraordinary Form Masses in Oxford this week

Today, for All Saints day, there will be Mass in the Extrordinary Form at the Oxford Oratory at 12.15 p.m.

There will be four Traditional Masses at St Gregory and St Augustine in Oxford this week, all at 6 p.m.:

Tuesday, All Souls, there will be a Sung Requiem
Wednesday, the usual weekly celebration
Thursday, the First Thursday with the intention for priests
Friday, the First Friday devotion

At 6 p.m. on Friday at the Oratory there will be the annual Solemn Requiem for deceased Fathers and Brothers of the Oratory, again in the Extraordinary Form.
